The hack occurred when the group DarkSide, thought to be based in Eastern Europe, carried out a ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline company. The hack led to service disruptions that impacted people primarily in the southeastern region of the U.S. There were long gas lines and many gas stations were out altogether.
